of memory.

I am dream-bound

     to the weeping mother

of an ocean shore,

my shadow is darker

     than the prose tree

of mind and desire

          a prospect of inner lunacy

and death;

     the clam’s mouth is lighter

between the sun,

into the silence of blue willows

     to the inmost bones of creation

brimming in the mystic moonlight

     for I not only desire

the trance of memory…

a mouth,

& the shoots of winter,

 shapes the shore in which I’ve lost

where I shall be free in the dark;

adrift, perhaps artless,

     the dark is rayed in ashes

to the child of memory

alas, not a dream,

     as it bestows itself

to the eyes of… God.

Written in response to the Go Dog Go Cafe’s prompt: Write something around the words “mystic moonlight”.

This is a piece that I will most likely revise at a future date. I hope you enjoyed what I came up with for the prompt.

  1. A beautiful poem, full of deep nostalgic feelings…. and I’ve tears in my eyes, as here I am writing a memorial/tribute piece for my dad (it’s 5 years now)

  2. I loved your description of a life not fully realized. Youth but a memory. Especially loved your choice to explain over thinking as inner lunacy…

    • Hahaha. Aww, I’m glad you like this one as is.

      Yes, when I do the revision, it will be a separate post on its own. Now I didn’t think about voting which one is better, but I might set up a poll to see! Thank you so much.
